This was the longest walk of our pilgrimage, more than 16 miles. It was a continuous climbing and descending, but none was particularly steep nor challenging. Therefore, it was a relatively easy day.
We left Palas de Rei at 6:30, which seems to have become our regular departure time, and arrived at Rabadiso at 2 o’clock. We felt quite good about the time it had taken to walk that distance. As always, we stopped for breakfast and refreshments along the way, and reconnected with individuals and groups we had already met.
We especially enjoyed walking a distance with a group of young Italians, who were really delightful. Julia and I walked together for a while, and when she asked me my age and realized that there were exactly 60 years difference between our ages, she screamed and had to announce it to the entire group. Of course, we had to take a photo. We met them once again later in the day and Julia had to come up and give me a hug.
We also spent time with three couples from Spain, who enjoyed talking about American politics and Louisiana history. Our hostel was quite nice and the dormitory in which we were was not even half full, which made using the showers and toilets easier than at other times. For the first time on the entire Camino, brother Ronnie and I enjoyed a nice supper alone, which gave us the time and opportunity to reflect on all the blessings that we have received throughout our pilgrimage together.
